In queste ore circa 90 incendi si sono sviluppati nella periferia di Sydney, alimentati da raffiche di vento attorno ai 70-80 chilometri orari e a un clima molto secco: centinaia di pompieri se ne stanno occupando, ma si stima che nuovi incendi continueranno a nascere. Il problema va avanti ormai da circa tre giorni. Il Sydney Morning Herald parla di «centinaia» di case danneggiate dal fuoco: vari quartieri della città sono stati evacuati, e il comune consiglia agli abitanti della periferia di limitare i propri spostamenti. Il cielo sopra la città, inoltre, è coperto da ceneri e pennacchi di fumo.
