The Seattle City Council passed a resolution Monday to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous People’s Day. Tribal members and other supporters say the move recognizes the rich history of people who have inhabited the area for thousands of years. Some Italian-Americans and others objected, saying it honors one group while disregarding the Italian heritage of others.
