Nello zoo di Monaco di Baviera, nel sud della Germania, nei mesi di maggio e giugno sono nati quattro leoni marini, tre femmine e un maschio, ognuno da madre diversa: i gestori dello zoo li hanno chiamati Mona, Melly, Momo e Max. La cosa sorprendente, hanno detto i funzionari del parco, è che tutti e quattro i leoni marini sono stati concepiti dallo stesso maschio, Barney, che ha raggiunto la maturità sessuale a soli tre anni, due o tre anni prima della media dei leoni marini maschi. I leoni marini appena nati pesano 4 chilogrammi – gli viene dato da mangiare quattro volte al giorno – e sono lunghi 45 centimetri circa.
