Le pubblicità sessiste di American Apparel

La nota azienda di abbigliamento statunitense è accusata di nuovo - stavolta in Svezia - di diffondere immagini "degradanti" delle donne

Emelie Eriksson, una blogger svedese di 24 anni, in un recente post del suo blog – rilanciato anche da Buzzfeed – ha criticato molto duramente le immagini promozionali del sito di American Apparel, un noto marchio di abbigliamento americano che ha più di 260 negozi in tutto il mondo, accusandole di «diffondere un’immagine della donna davvero degradante».

Nelle foto le modelle sono quasi sempre giovanissime, molto poco vestite, e vengono ritratte in atteggiamenti parecchio provocanti. Al contrario, per gli stessi vestiti i modelli maschili vengono fotografati in situazioni più ordinarie, senza che vi sia alcun riferimento al sesso: la differenza è particolarmente evidente quando si tratta di pubblicizzare abbigliamento definito “unisex”, e quindi la stessa camicia viene indossata da un modello e da una modella.

Non è la prima volta che American Apparel viene criticata per questo motivo: lo stesso creatore e proprietario del marchio, il canadese Dov Charney, ammette che il sesso fa parte del prodotto che viene venduto. Spesso le autorità competenti dei paesi in cui è presente hanno censurato le pubblicità dell’azienda: l’ultimo caso è avvenuto due mesi fa nel Regno Unito.
