Non tutti sono entusiasti della nuova scultura dedicata a Martin Luther King dalla città di Boston

Venerdì 13 gennaio, nel parco pubblico Boston Common di Boston, negli Stati Uniti, è stata inaugurata la scultura “The Embrace” (“L’abbraccio”), dedicata a Martin Luther King, uno dei più importanti e influenti attivisti politici del Novecento, e a sua moglie Coretta Scott King. La scultura, realizzata in bronzo dall’artista Hank Willis Thomas, è una reinterpretazione dell’abbraccio che King e sua moglie si scambiarono quando lui vinse il premio Nobel per la pace, il 14 ottobre 1964. Il momento è ricordato anche da una famosa fotografia.

La scultura è stata svelata in presenza di un gran numero di persone, tra cui alcuni membri della famiglia King. Non tutti però hanno apprezzato la scelta dell’artista di raffigurare soltanto le braccia della coppia, eliminando le teste: alcune persone hanno commentato online che osservando la scultura, specialmente da alcuni specifici punti di vista, può apparire che il braccio posizionato più in basso stia in realtà sostenendo una gamba.
