L’oasi di Dunhuang

Una delle più celebri della Cina, nel deserto, con un lago a forma di mezzaluna

Dunhuang è una città della Cina che si trova nella provincia nord-occidentale di Gansu, tra le montagne e il deserto, che un tempo si trovava lungo la via della seta ed era un importante centro per il commercio con l’Occidente. A sei chilometri a sud di Dunhuang si trova l’oasi del Lago Yueyaquan Crescent, dalla particolare forma a mezzaluna. Nel 1960 la profondità media del lago era di 4-5 metri, ma nel corso degli anni, a causa della crescente desertificazione, è diminuita costantemente arrivando nei primi anni Novanta, a un massimo di 1,3 metri. Nel 2006 il governo locale con l’aiuto del governo centrale ha dato il via a un progetto per ripristinare le dimensioni originali del lago. Oggi, con il deserto che lo circonda, lo Yueyaquan è molto popolare e raggiunto dai turisti in sella ai cammelli.
