In Italia, di questi tempi, fa caldo: non esattamente una novità, per luglio, anche se da qualche mese la cronaca della normale situazione meteorologica estiva è stata resa più frizzante, sui mezzi di comunicazione, da nomi che evocano l’Africa o l’inferno. Fa caldo anche negli Stati Uniti: in particolare nella zona del Midwest, in cui negli ultimi giorni si sono raggiunte temperature molto più alte della media, spesso vicino ai 50 °C. Unite a una forte siccità, le temperature potrebbe avere anche conseguenze sui prezzi dei prodotti agricoli.

Il sito Foreign Policy, per mostrare ai propri lettori che quello che stanno patendo in questi giorni negli Stati Uniti, seppur molto pesante, non è ancora catastrofico, ha pubblicato una lista dei posti più caldi del mondo. Quasi tutti sono deserti, la maggior parte dei quali si trovano tra Africa, Medio Oriente e Asia. Soltanto uno dei luoghi indicato nella lista si trova effettivamente negli Stati Uniti e, come ci si poteva aspettare, nessuno di questi è in Italia.
