Alcune decine di migliaia di persone hanno occupato il National mall, luogo che ospita da sempre le grandi manifestazioni della capitale, per il “Rally to restore sanity” (letteralmente “Manifestazione per riportare il buon senso”) organizzato da Jon Stewart, popolarissimo comico del Daily Show, e dal suo socio alter ego Stephen Colbert, nella parte dello speculare ispiratore della “Marcia per la paura”. A giudicare dalla folla, dall’attenzione dei media e dalla riuscita degli interventi sul palco, la manifestazione sarà giudicata probabilmente un piccolo successo, la testimonianza che esiste una parte di americani – piccola – disposta a impegnarsi per ricostruire una maggiore attenzione alla verità e al buonsenso nella politica e nella società americane, prendendo le cose con leggerezza.
